Anderson’s

“When I tell people there are at least a hundred steps in the production of one of our belts, they don’t believe me,” says Anderson’s CEO Riccardo Valenti. “A suit or shoe, yes. But a belt?” Of course, you don’t have to do it the Anderson’s way. You could cut down on the ruthless culling of inferior hides.  You could cut back on the hand-shaping, trimming, die-cutting, die-stamping, methodical stab-stitching, loose-thread sealing and hand-finishing and polishing using hard natural wax. And you could start by not spending up to six months naturally tanning your hides with oak barks and natural tannins. You could make it all a lot easier but then that isn’t the Anderson’s way. You could also cut back on the styles you offered, the infinite variety suitable for any occasion. You might not offer the stretch woven multicolour woven belt in 60 different colour combinations, from eye-popping to simply playful. You might not bother with ostrich, crocodile and lizard skin and rule out high sophistication. And not go to the trouble of pre-softening and ageing a hand-braided leather belt, giving it the glow and patina of a life well-lived. But then, that wouldn’t be the Anderson’s way either.

Parma in Northern Italy is known for the quality of its food and leather goods. And that quality is built on the same passions, skills and stubborn dedication to traditions worth defending. Steeped in those traditions, Anderson’s has been making belts in Parma, and nowhere else, for the last 50 years.

HANDMADE IN PARMA

Anderson’s belts – from the multicolour stretch belt, in 60 different combinations, the handmade woven tubular belt, in 20 different colour variations, to more traditional hand-tooled saddle leather belts, belts in suede and nappa and exotic skins - now sell across the world. They are stocked in cutting-edge independents, traditional tailors and giant department stores in 80 different countries. Everything though still starts - design, manufacture and distribution - in Parma. And that’s the way it’s going to stay.

STORY

“The unique thing about Anderson’s is that everything is still in the same place,” says Valenti. “It is in the same building where we started. Everything is made or carried out by Anderson people – from the design to the cutting, the delivery to the dyeing to the stitching. The strength of Anderson’s today is that it is a brand, a factory and a product.” Have a look at the video about Anderson’s!
